Tartana Kennels was established in 1980 with the idea of producing the best quality dogs that can still do what they were originally bred to do. Much thought and planning goes into each breeding which has produced some of the top Dual Champion Gordon Setters in the Country. Every effort has been made to produce well balanced, healthy, multi-purpose dogs that can do whatever is asked of them, and look good doing it. Tartana Gordon Setters is home to four Dual Champions.

Anam Cara

In the Heart of America's Dairy land resides a small treasure trove of UNIQUE BEEF......a small herd of American LowLine Angus and Miniature Scottish Highland cattle, founded in the land of Giants!

A unique venture founded by a few crazy ladies under the farm name of Anam Cara, which translated from Gaelic means "Soul Friends". A coming together of the minds with the pursuit of producing a lean, low cholesterol meat for today's health conscious consumer.

LowLine Angus are usually under 42' in height, produce 70% of the rib eye area of conventional sized beef and yield smaller, more properly proportioned sized steaks for today's health minded consumer and chef.

Raised hormone and antibiotic free, the LowLines and Miniature Scottish Highlands are feed efficient, low in fat, very tender and flavorful beef that fits today's lifestyle. They are easily raised on smaller acreage and are grass feed efficient. Also they are very hardy for the environment in which they reside here in Northern Wisconsin.

Another benefit is the fatty acid called (CLA) conjugated linleic acid, which is found in particularly high concentrations in Angus steaks and dairy products, such as milk, butter, and cheese. It has been shown to have "cancer busting" effects on humans, CLA's have been showing a very significant promise on preventing tumor cells growing in breast and prostate cancers. Research is being done by Professor Klaus Wahle of the Rowett Research Institute and cancer expert Professor Steven Heys of Aberdeen University, findings due to be published in the journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.

Another reason we chose the LowLine and Miniature Scottish Highland was their efficient ability to convert grass to top quality lean meat on minimal acreage. Plus their docile nature made them a clear choice when it comes to handling them. Another plus for the LowLines was their being naturally polled (no horn growth) thus eliminating the extra chore of dehorning. Both the LowLines and Highlands have strong mothering instincts and birth a smaller sized calf with less stress involved for all concerned.

Our ultimate goal is to build up our LowLine herd of breeding stock as well as the Highland, then to cross the two and produce a very lean and flavorful meat for today's health conscious palate. LowLine breeding stock would be available on a limited basis. The miniature Highland will also take a while to accumulate as they are harder to find. So why not make the right choice.....come and check out our Little Gems of the Northwoods, Al Natural!
