Setanta Setters
My introduction to the Gordon Setter happened at dog show in Pittsburgh, PA in the winter of 1997. Little did I realize how much a visit to the dog show would change my life. Looking for something to do with my two children on a Saturday morning resulted in Setanta Setters. Having made my way to the ring where the Gordon Setters were shown my heart was stirred......., I guess the best way to describe what I am trying to say is to include a poem by G. M.Hopkins who wrote “The Windhover” in 1877, the year of his ordination.
Gerard Manley Hopkins
Having spent several minutes looking at the splendid spectacle unfolding before me I managed to talk to a few of the people about their dogs. No one had any business cards, no one had a pen and paper, I offered my contact information and was hauled away by my two children then quiet bored with the whole adventure. Home and on to the Net. Two years later after much research, I purchased my foundation dog, Dual Champion Tarbaby's Setanta T Rex JH. The adventure continued with my introduction to the A.K.C. Hunt Test and later Field Trial. To date I have ran numerous hunt test and field trials. I was secretary of the 2003 Gordon Setter Club of America National Field Trial, Chairman of the 2005 Gordon Setter Club of America National Specialty, Captain of the Guns at the 2005 Gordon Setter Club of America National Hunt Test. I have judged several Hunt Tests and Field Trials for all pointing breeds. I had the honor to judge the 2007 Gordon Setter Club of America National Hunt Test.
"Setanta Setters was established with the idea of producing the best quality Gordon Setters that can still do what they were originally bred to do. Much thought and planning goes into each breeding. Every effort has been made to produce well balanced, healthy, multi-purpose dogs that can do whatever is asked of them, and look good doing it.". Frank Watters
